JAYAPURA – The Papua Provincial Government has called for the Patriot Expedition Team Program to continue with a broader scope of activities. In addition to agriculture, the program is expected to expand into plantations, socio-cultural activities and other sectors across Papua.

Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri made the statement while accompanying Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono during a visit to the Integrated Pilot Sekolah Rakyat 75 in North Jayapura District, Jayapura City, on Friday (Sept. 18, 2026).

Fakhiri said the involvement of young people through the Patriot Program could help communities develop the potential available in their respective areas. The Patriots could also provide direct assistance and guidance for community-based activities.

“In addition to teaching, they also provide assistance in activities that are growing within the community,” Fakhiri said.

According to Fakhiri, Papua has abundant natural resources that still require assistance and support to be developed. The presence of young professionals with knowledge and skills could help communities optimize these resources.

Fakhiri expressed hope that the number of Patriots assigned to Papua could increase next year. He also called for the scope of their activities to be expanded to include the plantation sector as well as socio-cultural development.

“If possible, there should be more of them next year. Not only in agriculture, but also in plantations, socio-cultural activities and other fields,” he said.

Fakhiri said the Patriots also have a role in introducing Papua’s potential to people outside the region. Field assistance is expected to provide a better picture of the region’s potential and the development of Papuan communities.

He said the continuation of the program could support human resource development while promoting the use of local potential. The Papua Provincial Government hopes that collaboration with the central government through the Patriot Program will continue. ***
